Developed by a special task force of ASA, this document was first published in Anesthesiology in February 1993 and revised in 2002. The report summarizes the task force’s recommendations on pulmonary artery catheterization and its rationale, based on scientific evidence and expert opinion.  The revised guidelines were published in the October 2003 issue of the journal Anesthesiology.
